Important! - This version does not support Truck ELD. The 3.19.2 ELD version is available for download in our Store.

Firmware Version 3.21 Updates
  • Possible connection and performance improvements.
  • Adapter data will not be saved until the App disconnects. This reduces the number of times the Adapter LEDs go solid red.
  • Fixed retrieving J1708 Fuel Used, Idle Fuel Used, Total Hours, Idle Hours (from 3.20.0). Note, this is patched in App version 9.2.0.

Mark, Is 3.21 available in the store. I only see 3.20. Still working on my connection loss issue (approx. every 20-35 minutes) and not being able to reconnect without rebooting software program. Hoping this update along with 9.2.0 will help.
Thanks, Chris Herman

Firmware 3.21 is out on the Firmware Update page now. Give it a go and let me know if it helps.

Mark, my current firmware is 3.19.1 for Trucks. My info page shows update 3.20.0 is available. Where do I find it. I only see 3.21 which you state doesn’t work with Trucks …. Motorhome only? Can I use a Win7 laptop to update like before?

Firmware 3.21 is out. It will show up in the About page soon. As long as you're not using the Truck version ELD function then you can update to 3.21. Not sure if the Firmware Update program will work on Win7. My guess is no.

FWIW - I have just downloaded the 3.21.0 firmware update and installed it in my Black/1939/Android w/rectangular chip (2006 Phaeton - with 2005 Cat C7). Have not yet connected it to the tablet nor installed it back in the RV, but so far, it looks like everything went as it should have. I have already updated my tablet app to the latest .. 9.2.3 version. HOPE it all works better on my next trip. BTW... Windows 7/64 bit. Driver install went OK as did the update.

Have firmware 3.20, software 9.30 installed, green adapter connected now to computer & blinking blue. Probably need to download new firmware to computer but instructions are not first class.

Understand 3.21.0 firmware version supposedly available ... finally found it at the Bluefire store.
Seems to want $10 but scared to click on cart since it says something about delivery & there's also some confusing comments about having to send in the adapter or not. Again imo (am not geeky) very confusing not straightforward instructions.

1. do I need to pay $10 in shopping cart & will I then be able to download & load into adapter ??
Usually firmware updates are free once one pays initially for gadget/software !!.

Getting closer to throwing this gadget in the trash. Most of readouts are already available on RV's LBCU (have 2019 Tiffin RED, using Samsung Tab A7 Lite).

Please, someone please convince me how to easily get download for new firmware at shopping cart & is $10 really for the download which can then maybe easily be transferred into gadget.

Hopefully with simple instructions. Thanks

The firmware update is FREE. Installing it is FREE.. *IF* you can do it yourself. If you can't/don't know how/can't understand the instructions/etc and still want it updated, THEN the fee for doing it is $10.. PLUS shipping there and back (not positive about the return shipping .. MIGHT be included in the $10).

The update instructions ARE NOT EASILY UNDERSTOOD. If you are NOT 'GEEKY', you are likely better off to just send it in. However, I've had mine almost a year now and have gone through at least 4 firmware updates.. so it does get a bit pricey if you cannot do it yourself.

If you made it to the store.. you're in the right place - but you really have to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Not that they are THAT GREAT, but it does give you the complete process. You have to download the zip file... you have to have a WINDOWS computer - either Win7, 8, or 10 and you NEED to have a decent understanding of what it takes to go into Windows device manager and update the drivers for a DEVICE (like the BF Adapter). If you don't have a CLUE about how to do that, then again... best to pack it up and send it in with your $10 :-).

Thanks .... I will try again. I do consider myself somewhat comfortable with computer updates .... just find the BlueFire instructions very very limited & confusing.

Hope I can actually find the "free" download location ....

Will advise & if found, may elaborate on my process ...

Thanks

Go to
https://bluefire-llc.com/store/adapter-firmware

The link is in listing item #7.

The part of "Instructions will be shown after unzipping and opening the program." is where it's likely to get confusing. The instructions ON THE SCREEN are cryptic and apply DIFFERENTLY to the various OS's in play. You'll see different things on Win7, 8, and 10.. but the instructions really only fit ONE of them. (not sure WHICH of them they fit, but it's NOT MINE :-) ).

It took me some head scratching and 3 or 4 tries to get it right, but it did finally work. The process for installing the driver is WAY different than for installing any other windows driver that I've ever encountered... and it CHANGES (the process is the same, but the DRIVER is different) with each upgrade of the firmware. You HAVE to follow the 'guidance' (I won't say exactly INSTRUCTIONS) to get it all to work.

Good luck,
Steve

OK ... after hunting through the website, now managed to find the free zip file & downloaded to computer (Windows 10) & copied to Samsung TabALite tablet. I would have thought/recommend that when the connection advises that an update is available that clicking on the new update that it links directly to location of file.

I did have the adapter connected to computer to an open USB port on computer & had blinking green also blinking blue when connected. Also had the tablet connected.

Now at a loss to transfer update to adapter .... ??

Not sure if same process, but did last November manage to upload 9.2.3 software (but with my golden age, cannot remember, with exception that I did swear a lot).

Wonder if you could help me out again a little, to point me how to now get the firmware 3.21 update loaded / activated properly into adapter & software.

Hopefully this last step is not too difficult. Would really appreciate simple instructions to complete update.

Thanks so much.

The download is an MSI file. You have to UNZIP the file to get to the msi file and save it somewhere. Then right click on the file and click INSTALL. That should install a file structure on your computer (defaults to a bluefire directory) and gives you the location. IIRC, the msi install puts the file in the Program Files (x86) directory .. but that's on Win7).
Then you dblclick on the Bluefire Firmware Update.exe file and it will open a page of instructions. READ THOSE INSTRUCTIONS - especially Item 4. You HAVE TO install the new driver before anything will work (the DRIVER INSTALL BUTTON is down at the BOTTOM of the page ... no where close to the instructions that mention it.

Hopefully, it will go nicely from there.

Finally after pita torture ..... SUCCESS.

Plugged adapter into motorhome, blinking blue, connected & tablet "About" status shows 3.21 installed.

Wish they could simplify process & show EXACTLY where / steps to go (for casual guys like me).
By the time another update comes will have completely forgotten again.

Thank you so very much for your help & patience.

Is it possible to perform this update from a Windows 11 machine? The instructions say Windows 10 (Version "20H2" OS Build "19042" or later) and I'm running Windows 11 Version "21H2" OS Build "22000.434", which meets the requirement of being later than the version in the instructions. The reason I ask is when I prepare to install the driver I do not see a "Cerb-Family" under "Other Devices" in the Device Manager menu. Could the device be called something else, and/or located elsewhere in the Device Manager?

Turns out the problem was a bad USB cable. Once a good USB cable was used I was able to update the drivers & firmware from my Windows 11 machine!

Update worked perfectly once i realized the "firmware" update file itself was included with the Update Program and not a separate download that I couldn't find --- :)

Mark,
I have tried to get the Cerb-Family diver to load. I am longed in as the administrator. I am running Windows 10 Pro 21H2 OS build 19044.1706
When I try to update the driver on the Cerb-Family "Windows cannot find the drivers for your device". C:\Program Files (x86)\BlueFIre LLC\BlueFire Firmware Update\Driver is where the driver is located but it will not recognize it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like you might have flashed the wrong firmware. You have a BLE adapter so go back and flash it with the first selection in the dropdown box.
