I have a 2006 Beaver Patriot Thunder with aCat C13 engine. This motor has compound turbos and will make up to 48 psi of boost. The coach is equipped with their Aladdin system which lets me see a digital readout of the bus data so I can compare it to Bluefire data easily.

As long as I am under 33 psi of boost as shown on Aladdin, the Bluefire boost gauge works fine. If the Aladdin shows over 32 psi the Bluefire just reads 32 until the Aladdin shows under 32, then after a short delay it'll start following it again.

Is there some kind of hard limit at 32 psi? I know the data is on the bus so is there a seeing I can change to let the range go to 50 psi? I have the gauge range set to 50.

Thanks

Confirmed with J1708 boost. Will be fixed in the next version release. Thanks for catching this.

Thanks! When do you think you'll release that?

Ok, reviewing the SAE specifications, J1708 Boost Pressure max is 32 while J1939 max is 70. If you have J1939 available, try retrieving Boost from there. I imagine that your Aladdin is either retrieving the data from an analog source or from J1939.

Sorry I missed your reply. I'll have to do more looking. There's a 1939 plug back by the engine but only the 6 pin plug up front and it didn't give me data on 1939, only 1708. The Aladdin unit is above the windshield and it's just fed with a shielded twisted pair. Would they all be on the same bus? Can I get data from both 1939 and 1708 simultaneously?

Never mind. Looks like both j1708 and J1939 are present in the 9 pin connector, I'll just have to make one up that works from the 6 pin and the Aladdin feed wires.

So it looks like they never brought J1939 up front in my coach so the Aladdin must be running off J1708 but still getting up to at least 48 psi boost values. I was looking on the Silverleaf forum after Googling "J1708 turbo boost pressure and they said that after 2002 when engines came out with higher than 32 psi boost they changed the J1708 spec to accommodate an "extended boost" range. This quote is from Mark O. the Silverleaf guy.

"In the 1980's and 1990's when the J1708/J1587 Specification was developed by the SAE, the Turbo Boost Parameter was established at a MAX Value of 32 PSI. When the 2002 Engines were released, many exceeded that Value, so an Extended Turbo Boost range was established. Your Engine will support One or the Other."

Looking at several other results when I Googled that it looks like the extended boost range goes to 104 psi. Did the latest update include that range extension? It didn't work differently on mine after I loaded the new software revision a week ago.

Thanks!
