Mark, I emailed the log. so today, I first brought up the dash and it still said 8.1, that is the first pic. Then I reset the ECU, the second pic. Then I brought up the dash and turned the key on but did not start the engine, third pic. Then I started the engine and the gauges loaded but the Average still says 8.1. The distance to empty is "0" I assume because of the reset and as I just filled up before I put it away I just hit Fuel Fill Up and it showed correctly but the average still stayed 8.1 I have not driven it yes as we were suppose to leave today but the trip got cancelled because of wildfires.

The Average Fuel Economy is coming from the Engine ECM and is the average over the life of the engine. See the Drive page as it shows both the Average Fuel Economy (Engine ECM) and the Calculated Fuel Economy (for trips).

I checked under the Drive section and they both say 8.1. So is having the average fuel economy on the dash useless as it never changes?

Just made a 300 mile trip and once again, even after a couple ecu resets there is no change in the average fuel reading, still showing 8.1...

The 'Average Fuel Econ' on the Drive page is coming directly from the engine ECM and is the life time average. If it's not changing then the ECM is not updating it.
